The Gazette Small Schools Volleyball Coach of the Year: Lori Currier, CSCS
Lori Currier never saw herself back at her alma mater of Colorado Springs Christian School, and never aspired to run a varsity volleyball program.
Now, she’s there and loving every minute of it.
“Different events landed me back here,” said Currier, a Colorado Springs native who graduated from CSCS in 1996. “I didn’t see myself as a varsity coach. It’s been a fun journey.”
In her three seasons, Currier, who was an assistant coach on Doherty’s 2012 undefeated 5A state-champion team, has concentrated on developing depth and camaraderie within the entire program.
To her, it’s not just about who’s on varsity, even though that’s her title now.
“I make sure everybody is feeling (good) included and starting from the ground up,” Currier said. “That’s my desire. The program is growing in the last few years, and it’s fun to see that interest. I’m excited for the future.”
