Prep roundup: Rampart falls to Denver South in boys’ basketball
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Denver South 73,
Rampart 70
At Denver South: Jackson Ehrlin and Cal Zeb Roberson each had 14 points, but poor free-throw shooting doomed Rampart in a nonleague road loss.
The Rams (3-2) trailed by eight early and gradually fought back, behind only 60-54 heading into the fourth quarter.
They made it even closer, trimming the deficit to one in the game’s final minutes, with several chances to tie and take the lead at the free-throw line.
Rampart missed 13 of 30 free throws in addition to making just five of 24 3-pointers.
“We shot terribly from the free-throw line, and that’s what happens,” Rams coach J’on St. Clair said. “We didn’t have a good start and were playing behind all night. We had our chances. We just have to shoot the ball better.”
Kole Cerjan scored 10 points for Rampart, which saw its two-game winning streak come to an end.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Palmer 51, Legend 43
At Palmer: Tashika Burrell registered 14 points, six assists and three steals, and Abi Torres-Drozd added 10 points as Palmer started strong and held off Legend in nonleague action.
The Terrors (4-4) led 17-4 after the first quarter but saw that pad reduced to just 27-22 by halftime.
“The first quarter is when we got the lead, and we hung on from there,” Terrors coach Dave Shackelford said.
“We kind went into a lull, and basketball is a game of runs.
The Titans (4-3) made it a two-point game late, but Palmer hit five of seven free throws down the stretch.

At Sertich Ice Center: Logan Stein scored three goals, including two in the third period, and Pine Creek broke open a close game to pull away from Heritage and stay perfect in league play.
The Eagles (3-0, 2-0 Peak Conference) never trailed, and goals by Stein and Alexander Brooks gave them a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.
Brooks and Stein scored 1:59 apart early in the third period to extend the lead to 4-1, and Stein completed the hat trick with a goal in the final seconds.
Wyatt Kiewicz stopped 24 of 25 shots for Pine Creek.
