Highlights from Friday’s high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.

HOCKEY

Lewis-Palmer 3, Steamboat Springs 2

At Colorado Sports Center: Cameron Brummond scored on a two-man advantage 6:46 into the third period as Lewis-Palmer rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Steamboat.

Justin Zeich and Christian Perry netted goals for the Rangers (1-1), who also got 31 saves from Noah Vanderbeck.

Cheyenne Mountain 7, Pueblo County 5

At Colorado College: Ryan Smith and Van Hovenga scored twice, and Trevor Taylor added a goal and three assists as Cheyenne Mountain (3-1) scored four goals in the third period and held off Pueblo County.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Vista Ridge 54, Pueblo Central 27

At Parker: Hunter Maldonado led all scorers with 18 points, and Vista Ridge limited Michael Ranson, the state’s leading scorer, to only five points as the Wolves improved to 4-0 for the first time in school history at the Ponderosa Tournament.

Noah Beatty added 10 for Vista Ridge, which led 30-14 at halftime.

Ranson, who scored 59 points in Monday’s overtime win at Falcon, entered Friday’s game averaging 37.7 points in the season’s first six games.

“He’s a heck of a player, and I was real happy with the way our kids communicated and made his looks tough,” fourth-year Wolves coach Joe Hites said. “We took a game plan and executed it and made good decisions.”

Vista Ridge completes play at the tournament on Saturday against Fort Morgan.

Eaglecrest 84, Falcon 47

At Palmer: Eaglecrest soared to a 21-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the semifinals of the Terror Invitational.

The Raptors (5-0) will meet Palmer in the championship game on Saturday.

Mesa Ridge 69, Coronado 43

At Palmer: Mesa Ridge broke a two-game losing streak, jumping all over Coronado early and cruising in a consolation game at the Terror Invitational.

The Grizzlies (2-3) led 24-8 after one quarter and were never challenged after that.

Joseph Callan paced Coronado (0-5) with 10 points.

Thompson Valley 72, Cheyenne Mountain 69

At Fort Collins: A buzzer-beating 3-pointer kept Cheyenne Mountain (0-4) out of the win column at the Fort Collins-Poudre Tip Off Invitational.

Sierra 59, Niwot 40

At Boulder: C.J. Jennings was the game’s only double-digit scorer, putting in 19 points, to help Sierra break a two-game losing streak at the Fairview Festival.

The Stallions (2-3) outscored the Cougars (1-4) in all four quarters.

Kion Wingo added nine points, while Dondre Savage had eight for Sierra.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Durango 43, Widefield 41

At Pueblo County: Jaida Aquino scored a team-high 15 points as Widefield’s rally from double digits barely fell short.

The Gladiators (1-4) trailed 41-29 entering the fourth quarter.

“We went to a halfcourt trap, and we had some success with it,” Gladiators coach Jim Mason said. “We forced a few bad passes, and all of the sudden, we were back in it. We had a few chances at the end, but when you dig a hole deep enough, you spend all your energy climbing out of that hole and you run out of gas.”

Widefield’s Logan Prater added 11 points and nine rebounds before fouling out late in the third quarter.

Mesa Ridge 71, Dakota Ridge 65

At Littleton: Kylee Shook scored 38 points to help Mesa Ridge (6-0) remain perfect on the young season.

The Pirates (5-0) led only 15-12 at halftime.

The Indians (2-2) shot just 21 percent from the field.

The Lions (2-0) also got eight points from Rachel Ingram and seven from Katie Hildenbrand.

At Discovery Canyon: Two-time and defending state champion Sam Turner pinned his opponent, one of nine early finishes as the Thunder dominated.
