U.S. Honor Flag to be flown at funeral of slain UCCS officer Garrett Swasey

For the third time this year, the U.S. Honor Flag is headed to Colorado, this time for the funeral of UCCS police officer Garrett Swasey, who was killed on Nov. 27 in a shooting rampage at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood.

The honor flag has been traditionally flown at the funerals of first responders who have died in the line of duty. The same flag was also flown over Ground Zero in New York City, the site of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In Colorado, the honor flag was flown at the funerals of two state patrol troopers, Taylor Thyfault and Jamie Jursevics. Swasey was one of three people killed in Friday’s shooting, which wounded nine others, including five law enforcement officers.
