5 creative stocking stuffer ideas for everyone on your list

Celebrate! is a your guide to events, shopping, dining, and enjoying the holiday season in the Pikes Peak region.

Stocking gifts are often an after-thought. You know the kind: gas station candy bars, cheesy neck rub coupons, boring Gold-toe socks. This year, treat your loved ones to personalized and practical stocking stuffers they will truly appreciate.

1. For the globe trotter

When they’re not on a plane or blogging about their latest overseas adventure, the world travelers in your family likely have visions of hostels and safaris dancing in their heads. Satiate their wanderlust with mini globes in the form of a wine stopper, jewel pendant or key chain. If you still have room in the stocking, stuff it with a beautiful map. “We’ve got every map and travel guide imaginable,” said Bob Stanley, general manager of MacVan Map Company, 1045 B Garden of the Gods Road. Stanley said this season’s most popular guide books are Cuba, France and Scotland.

2. For the photographer

Photographers come in all shapes and sizes, from full-time professionals to casual backyard shooters. No matter their skill level, the photogs in your family would likely appreciate an upgrade this year. “For more everyday photographers, I’d recommend a basic microfiber cloth for about $6.99, to clean the front and back elements and the rear LCD screen,” said Christopher Gilbert, customer service associate at Mike’s Camera, 1850 N. Academy Blvd. For more experienced photographers, go big with a hood loop for about $79.99 to block the sun from interfering with the shooter’s LCD screen. “This is great for anyone shooting with an SLR outside,” Gilbert said.

3. For the glamorous

You can hardly go wrong with jewels, especially during the holidays. “People don’t typically think of jewelry as a stocking stuffer, so imagine how wowed they’d be to receive something so exquisite,” said Andrew Graff, manager at Luisa Graff Jewelers, 5901 N. Nevada Avenue. “I’d recommend something timeless, like a sterling-silver bar pendant with a personalized inscription.” From Black Friday through Christmas Day, Luisa Graff will offer specials on a variety of pieces like a snowflake pendant on sale for $69 and a pearl set including a necklace, bracelet and earrings, on sale for $99.

4. For the young reader

Strapped for cash but want to gift your child with access to creativity, adventure and intrigue? Give them a library card. “A library card gives you access to more than one million items at no cost, from books to maker spaces and resources for entrepreneurs,” said Dee Sabol, community engagement and outreach officer for the Pikes Peak Library District. Library cards are available at any of the 14 PPLD branches, including Library 21c, 1175 Chapel Hills Drive. “We love for kids to have their own cards, it teaches them responsibility and opens up a whole new world,” Sabol said.

5. For the hard to shop for

We all have one – a family member or friend who is impossible to pin down when it comes to Christmas gifts. Never fear – the Colorado Springs Deal of the Day is here. Visit gazettedev.gazette.com/deal for hugely discounted services and items like spa massages, painting parties, fresh coffee, conceal-and-carry classes and more. Stuff your loved one’s stocking with delightful items from the site’s Holiday Gift Shop or keep an eye on its Cyber Monday specials. “We’ll post new deals every hour on the hour,” said Deal of the Day manager Meghan Berry. Still not sure what to gift your hard-to-please loved one? “We’ve got gift cards, too,” Berry said. “They can find the perfect deal for themselves!”
