A Colorado State Patrol trooper who was hit by a car on Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock while she was investigating a crash on Sunday evening has died, according to state patrol.

The state patrol tweeted about the incident around 9 p.m. Sunday.

All lanes of the highway, around milemarker 179 just north of Larkspur, were shut down for several hours, but reopened Monday morning.

An official announcement was planned later Monday, reported The Denver Post. Troopers lined up outside patrol offices in Castle Rock and saluted as a coroner’s procession carried her away.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said via Twitter that northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 were reopened by 5:30 a.m. Monday after earlier warning all lanes were expected to remain closed until mid-morning.
