CSCS 38, Limon 14

At Mountain Lion Stadium: Justin Engesser threw four touchdown passes – two to Jake Dunn – and Colorado Springs Christian School blasted previously unbeaten and third-ranked Limon, scoring more points in the first half (31) than the Badgers had allowed in their previous five games (25).

CSCS (3-3, 1-1 1A South Central) broke a two-game losing streak by jumping on top of Limon early, leading 14-0 after one quarter and 31-14 at halftime.

Engesser also threw touchdown passes to Peter Van Os and Peter Wilson. Gabe Danzik rushed for a score as well for the Lions.

SOFTBALL

Pine Creek 4-18, F-FC 3-1

At Pine Creek: Thanks to a doubleheader sweep, Pine Creek won its fourth consecutive 5A CSML softball crown.

The Eagles (12-7, 11-1) won a nail-biter in the opener against Fountain-Fort Carson before rolling in a run-rule-shortened second game.

In the first game, Casey Esquivel allowed only one earned run and struck out six in a complete-game win for Pine Creek. Suzannah Rowell added a run-scoring triple, while Michaela Wren went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Pueblo West 2, Discovery Canyon 0

At Pueblo West: Corah Price allowed only four hits and struck out five in a complete-game loss for Discovery Canyon (11-8), which dropped four of its last six to end the regular season. Kailee Clark went 2 for 2 with a walk for the Thunder.

Mitchell 17, Sierra 6, 5 innings

At Mitchell: Karissa Madrid had a home run and drove in four runs, and Mitchell erased an early three-run deficit by scoring 11 runs in the second inning as the Marauders (3-15) run-ruled Sierra (0-17) in a 4A Metro League crossover tournament game.

Lamar 20, Florence 0

At Lamar: Lamar (11-7-1, 4-1 3A District 2) kept Florence (4-15, 0-5) winless in league play.

BOYS’ TENNIS

4A Region 7

At Pueblo City Park: Fountain Valley qualified five entrants for the upcoming 4A state tournament, highlighted by four region champions and a runner-up finish.

The No. 1 doubles team of Keita Kadokura and Peter Leisure wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a 6-2, 6-1 regional-final win, as did Joel Addy, who rallied from a set down to win at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. No. 1 singles player Vinay Merchant also claimed the title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory, while Jack Yuan and Owen Rask captured the crown at No. 4 doubles, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Mariano Fernandez fell in the No. 2 singles final, 6-2, 6-3.

The Canon City No. 2 doubles team of Dalton Mckennan and Michael Dirksen fell in the finals, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0, but qualified for the state tournament.

Pueblo Centennial won the region team title with 75 points. Fountain Valley (69) finished a close second.

BOYS’ SOCCER

TCA 8, Canon City 1

At Canon City: Andrew Peck scored twice and Jaden Borja added a goal and an assist as The Classical Academy clinched its second straight 4A Metro League title with a blowout win.

TCA (10-1, 6-0) scored five times in the first half en route to its ninth win in a row.

Logan Hopkins scored the lone goal for Canon City (5-5-1, 4-2), which sits in a three-way tie for second place with Mesa Ridge and Mitchell heading into Tuesday’s final league games.

Doherty 3, Coronado 2

At Coleman Field: Toby Gums put Doherty on top early, then tallied later for the game-winning goal to lift the Spartans in Metro League action.

Coronado (8-2, 0-2 5A Metro) tied the game at 1 on a penalty kick and had a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Anthony Acosta tied the game for Doherty (4-6, 2-0) in the 46th minute, then Gums gave the Spartans the lead for good five minutes later.

Colorado Academy 3, Fountain Valley 2, OT

At Denver: The Fountain Valley School-Colorado Academy Challenge Cup will stay north for one more year.

The Mustangs (7-4-1), the 3A state champions in 2012-13 and runner-up last season, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in regulation, then won in overtime.

The Danes (8-2-2) are winless in their past eight meetings with Colorado Academy, salvaging only a tie in 2009.

The Cup originally started as the prize for the schools’ football rivalry.

Jefferson Academy 4, St. Mary’s 0

At Broomfield: St. Mary’s (2-8) couldn’t muster any offense in a road nonleague loss.

VOLLEYBALL

Rampart 3, Fountain-Fort Carson 0

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Taylor Sibert led a balanced effort with seven kills as Rampart (7-6, 2-0 5A Metro) cruised past the Trojans (3-12, 0-2) to stay unbeaten in league play.

La Junta 3, Fountain Valley 0

At La Junta: La Junta was too much for Fountain Valley (7-7, 3-6 3A Tri-Peaks) in a straight-set victory.

Buena Vista 3, Florence 0

At Florence: Buena Vista stayed within one game of league-leading Manitou Springs by making short work of Florence (6-11, 1-6 3A Tri-Peaks).

FIELD HOCKEY

Cheyenne Mountain 3, Fossil Ridge 0

At Fort Collins: Kaitlin Maclennan scored all three goals as Cheyenne Mountain (3-7-1, 3-5-1) won its second straight game by shutting out Fossil Ridge (0-11, 0-9). Amy Ruminski added an assist for the Indians.

CROSS COUNTRY

Peyton boys win in Wiggins

At Wiggins: Peyton, led by Garhett Shaw’s third-place effort, won the boys’ team title at the Wiggins Cross Country Invitational. Shaw finished the race in 16:56.10. Also for the Panthers, Quinten Harris placed seventh, while Caleb Smith took 12th and Gage Gellerman placed 16th.

Peyton finished with 38 points, seven better than Palmer Ridge, which was paced by sixth-place finisher Brandon Hippe.

Kaylee Kearse of Peyton finished seventh and paced the girls’ team to a third-place team finish.

Widefield boys take third

At Englewood: Max Martinez placed fifth overall, and two of his teammates finished close behind to pace a third-place team finish for Widefield at the Windjammer Cross Country Invitational.

Martinez clocked a time of 16 minutes, 56 seconds. Matthew Arbegast (17:15) finished 10th, while Cole Munoz (17:21) crossed the finish line 12th for the Gladiators.

Sand Creek’s Nick Fisher finished eighth overall in 17:11.

Maia Austin of Sand Creek finished seventh in the girls’ race to pace area contestants.

Coronado girls win Doherty invite

At Bear Creek Regional Park: All five of Coronado’s runners finished in the first eight places as the Cougars rolled to the team victory at the Doherty Spartan Cross Country Invitational on Friday.

Chloe Cassens finished third overall, and was immediately followed by teammates Taylor Dutton, Madeline Moreland and Faith Roth. Elena Muzzy finished eighth.

James Irwin’s Kiara Mattern won the overall girls’ division in 19 minutes, 35 seconds. Kayli Tabares finished second in 19:55.

In the boys’ varsity race, Rampart’s Connor McCabe was the top area finisher with a fourth-place effort, the first of four Rams in the top 11 to power a second-place team showing. The Rams finished just two points behind Mountain Vista.
