Table Talk: The Blue Star celebrates 20th anniversary with specials
Joseph Coleman, owner of The Blue Star, 1645 S. Tejon St., is wrapping up a month of specials celebrating 20 years in business. Tuesday is Date Night, where you can enjoy an entree deal in the lounge: buy one, get another for half price. Free Blue Star Cookbooks go to the first 20 guests through the door on Wednesday. September also has featured Throwback Thursday in the lounge, where you could get old-time favorites like almond rosemary-crusted salmon and spicy Asian noodle bowl. On Saturday there’s 20 percent off the reserved wine collection.
And, as always throughout the year, you can get half-price bottles of wine on Sundays.

Swirl and sip
There will be a blind wine-tasting class offered at Swirl Wine Bar, 717 Manitou Ave., at 5 p.m. Oct. 4. This will be the first of a series that will be held the first Sunday of the month. Blind tasting, also called deductive tasting, is where you use sight, smell and taste to determine wine varietal, region, climate and even producer.
Cost is $35 per person. You’ll sample five fine wines with a cheese and meat plate and receive instruction from the store’s sommelier. Reservations required. Details: 685-2294, swirlismy bar.com.
