Pine Creek boys’ soccer edges Coronado in OT in battle of ranked area teams

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pine Creek 2, Coronado 1

At Coronado: Jakob Ervin’s corner kick deflected off a Coronado defender into the net with two minutes remaining as Pikes Peak region Class 5A No. 2 Pine Creek (3-3-3 overall, 1-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) won for the first time in its last four games.

Ervin finished with two assists — his first coming on Andrew Turk’s third goal of the season in the second half. Kyle Shetler had eight saves in net.

Pikes Peak No. 3 Coronado (6-1, 0-1), which had outscored opponents 35-4 coming into Monday, tied the game with 8 minutes left.

Doherty 4, Fountain-Fort Carson 2

At Sand Creek Soccer Stadium: Junior Delgado had two goals and Doherty (3-5 overall, 1-0 5A CSML) scored four goals in the last 31 minutes of regulation to win its second straight game.

Last week, the Spartans beat Pikes Peak region Class 4A No. 2 Cheyenne Mountain 3-1.

Fountain-Fort Carson (1-7-1, 0-1) has not won since its first game of the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Lewis-Palmer 3, Falcon 0

At Lewis-Palmer: Emily McCurley had 10 aces and 13 digs as Pikes Peak region Class 4A No. 1 Lewis-Palmer beat Falcon 25-13, 25-12, 25-10.

Lydia Bartalo added nine kills and eight digs for the Rangers (8-0 overall, 1-0 4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference), who have lost just one set all season.

SOFTBALL

Falcon 23, Palmer Ridge 3, 3 innings

At Palmer Ridge: Pikes Peak region Class 4A No. 2 Falcon (8-8 overall, 5-0 4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference) stayed perfect in league play. And did it convincingly.

Madison Whorton had two hits and drove in four runs. Matison Slider and Sierra Leon drove in three runs apiece. And Lexi Manyik had three hits and two RBIs.

Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge (2-14, 0-5) has lost 14 straight.

Vista Ridge 19, Sand Creek 1, 4 innings

At Sand Creek: Vista Ridge bounced back from last week’s 11-0 loss to Air Academy with a romp over Sand Creek on Monday.

Makayla Jewell had two hits and drove in four runs. Evangelina Kisa added a triple and drove in three runs.

The Wolves (13-4, 3-2) scored 11 runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth inning.

Brooke Reid had two hits and Hailee Mayl drove in the lone run for Sand Creek (4-12, 1-4).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Vanguard 6, Sand Creek 1

At Sand Creek: Vanguard (2-5, 1-7) swept doubles play and won the top two singles matches.

Paul Gernert had the Scorpions (1-7) only win in No. 3 singles.

Fountain Valley 7, Colorado Springs School 0

At CSS: Vinay Merchant beat Chris Meadows 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play for Fountain Valley (8-1).

Mariano Fernandez and Joel Addy each had 6-0, 6-0 win in No 2 and 3 singles.

CSS (2-6) did not win a set on Monday.
