High school cheerleaders defend controversial 9/11 routine

A high school cheerleading team from Texas is defending a 9/11 dance routine that some say is insensitive.

The Lumberton High School cheerleading team performed a 9/11 tribute to Lee Greenwood’s songGod Bless the U.S.A. on September 11. The audio also included sound bites from people who witnessed the terror attacks and former President George W. Bush.

A video of the routine was posted on Facebook on Sept. 11, and as of Tuesday the video had over 25 million views.

While the response was overwhelmingly positive, some called the routine “cringeworthy” and “inappropriate.”
