Must See Must Do: Best bets for fun this holiday weekend around the Springs
There are plenty of great options for fun over Labor Day weekend in Colorado Springs and beyond. Here are a few of the best:
FRIDAY
– First Friday Downtown – Let the kid in you – or the closet artist – loose during the Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, sponsored by the Acacia Park Visitors Hub as part of the monthly downtown event. Chalk will be provided as the drawing fun begins at 1 p.m. in Acacia Park and runs through First Friday hours, 5-8 p.m. The best chalk art will receive awards. Other First Friday highlights include a tour of galleries led by artists Jack Malloch and Eric Fetsch starting from Boulder Street Gallery, 206 N. TejonSt., at 6 p.m. New to the monthly event is Cottonwood Center for the Arts. – Star Days – International Space Station Celebration – Celebrate the International Space Station during an interactive, educational day at Space Foundation Discovery Center, 4425 Arrowswest Drive. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Kids can learn what it’s like to be an astronaut and families can learn how to spot the ISS from their own backyards. – Native American Day – In the plaza in front of the Rocky Mountain Resource Center in Woodland Park. From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. treat yourself to fry bread, Indian tacos, tamales and Tamacos from foot vendors, have an opportunity to see wolves from Rocky Mountain Wildlife and see the artistry of Native American craftsmen.
