Colorado Springs garden center offers samples of roasted chilies

It’s getting close to chili-roasting time. Alice Robinson, who with her husband, Dan, owns Spencer’s Lawn and Garden Centers, 1430 S. Tejon St., is getting ready to host a couple of Quesadilla Days, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 15 and 22. On those days she sets up several hot plates on which she cooks quesadillas with different types of roasted chilies. You can taste your way through all the different varieties of peppers they offer. It’s the best way to figure out which peppers you want to stock your freezer with for the winter.

Regular store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to roasted chilies you’ll find an array of salsas, pepper jams and other chili-based offerings. Details: 632-2788, spencersgardens.com.
