The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted Thursday to approve a redistricting plan.

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office proposed three options on May 12, and the commissioners’ decision came after a 30-day public comment period. Commissioners voted 4 to 0 to approve option No. 3. One commissioner was absent.

County commissioner district boundaries may be redrawn once every two years to keep roughly the same size population in each district. Deviation among populations this year was large enough, at 4.1 percent, to warrant new boundary lines.

The Clerk’s Office received 14 written and five verbal comments on the district proposals, according to a news release.

“We appreciate the people who studied the three proposed district boundary changes and submitted their comments on which option they believed would best serve our county,” Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman said in the release.
