Woman drowns in river in southwestern Colorado

MONTROSE — Authorities say a woman drowned after she was swept away in the rain-swollen Gunnison River in southwestern Colorado.

The Montrose Daily Press (http://goo.gl/Dc9yF7 ) reports 54-year-old Kelley Koschade, of Longmont, died after she fell from some sort of flotation device Monday.

Rescue teams from the National Park Service and several Gunnison County agencies responded after receiving word about 50 minutes after the accident.

Sheriff Rick Besecker says witnesses might not have had ready access to phones.

Koschade’s body was found about an hour and a half after first responders arrived. She was wearing a helmet and a life vest when she fell into the water.
