Manitou’s Matt Carpenter, Uta Pippig headline Colorado Running Hall of Fame class

Marathoner Uta Pippig and ultrarunner Matt Carpenter will headline the 2015 class of inductees in the Colorado Running Hall of Fame April 15 at the Denver Athletic Club.

Pippig, a native of the former East Germany, is a longtime Boulder County resident who won the Boston Marathon three times in the 1990s. She also won the Berlin Marathon three times and the New York City Marathon once. She represented a unified Germany in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics.

Carpenter has been one of the world’s top mountain runners for three decades. The Manitou Springs resident has won the Pikes Peak Marathon 12 times and the Pikes Peak Ascent six times, and he twice won both races on successive days. In 2005 he shattered the course record in the Leadville 100.
