The sun came out, the birds sang and the Colorado Springs city crews took full advantage of the warm weather and filled 5,000 potholes in one week — from March 9 to 13.

“The harsh winter we’ve experienced this year has played havoc on our city streets, but our streets division has done an amazing job of responding to the significant number of new potholes that have occurred as a result,” Travis Easton, Public Works Director said in a press release. “Because we recognize that potholes and the overall quality of our city’s streets are a major concern for our community we will continue to work diligently to maintain our streets in the most efficient and effective manner.”

Just one week earlier city crews were reporting filling 6,281 potholes in January and February, an increase of more than 3,600 over the same period in 2014. The streets division had spent $27,547 on potholes.
