A Wednesday morning crash near the intersection of Circle Drive and Constitution Avenue resulted in serious injuries and a convicted killer arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Colorado Springs police said Charles Limbrick Jr., 41, of Colorado Springs, sideswiped a northbound vehicle from behind on Circle Drive near Alpine Drive around 11:15 a.m. He was driving a Dodge van and rear-ended a Chrysler Pacifica when he attempted to flee the scene, police said, pushing the car through the Constitution Avenue intersection.
The driver of the Pacifica was seriously injured, and Limbrick was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, driving under the influence, careless driving and other traffic-related offenses and booked into jail.
It was unclear whether weather played a role in the crash.
The intersection was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated, but all lanes were reopened by 4 p.m.
Limbrick was 15 when he was convicted of first-degree murder in 1988 for killing his mother. He served 23 years in prison before his sentence was commuted by Gov. Bill Ritter in 2011.
