BLOG: Curling competition underway in Golden

We’ve made it through the round robin games at the Mile High Bonspiel at the Denver Curling Club in Golden.

There have been two great days of curling with another 24 hours to come.

There is no admission fee for spectators, so please come cheer on the teams as they battle for trophies and bragging rights at the new curling center.

There are curlers from Washington, Wyoming, Illinois, Minnesota, California, Ohio, Texas, Kansas, Wisconsin and Maryland.

For the first time in Colorado, there is a full team of wheelchair curlers, including members of the USA developmental team.

Play Downs Draw 1 is underway.

Play Down Draw 2 begins at 5 p.m.

Play Down Draw 3 begins at 7:15 p.m.

Play Down Draw 4 begins at 9:30 p.m.

Semi-Final games begin at 8 and 10:15 a.m. Sunday

The finals and Bonspiel championship game begins at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

Good curling, everyone!

(I’m playing with a guy I met 7 years ago when I first learned to curl, Jeremy Wimmer of Denver; a friend who flew in from San Francisco, Michael Mizuno; and a friend who used to curl with us all at The Ice Ranch in Littleton, Christa Saaijenga. We are 2-0-1 heading into an evening play down game.)

The UCCS men’s and women’s basketball teams will both be competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs this week. Gazette file photo.
