Next mayor of Colorado Springs could have higher salary
The next mayor of Colorado Springs could get paid slightly more than the current mayor, depending on the results of the 2015 Consumer Price Index report which will be released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor the Statistics.
The City Council will discuss a proposed ordinance setting the mayor’s salary at its work session Monday. The raise is mandated by the City Charter, which says the mayor’s salary will be adjusted every four years to coincide with the new term. The current salary is $96,000 a year. Council President Keith King said the raise likely will be a 2 percent increase. The salary increase will not be voted on Monday. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. in City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave.
The City Council also will discuss the city’s lease with the Colorado Springs Airport and an application to the Federal Aviation Administration to increase passenger facility charges to cover the capital costs at the airport.
