BLOG: U.S. curling champions will compete in Sochi
They’re champions!
What do Seattle curlers do when they win a national championship?
Celebrate atop the Space Needle? Take a ferry boat ride? Stick a piece of gum on the gum wall?
I’ll have to ask my friend Steve from the Granite Curling Club in Seattle.
Steve (on the right in the team photo, below) and his teammates are the new senior men’s national champions! I am so happy for them!
Steve Lundeen throws lead stones for Lyle Sieg‘s rink. They play with Tom Violette and Ken Trask.
(I think I’ve met each of them at one time or another in my curling adventures. Great curlers. Fun. Gentlemen.)
Norma O’Leary, who threw third on last year’s championship senior women’s team, skipped a team to the national title this year. (She competed at the Olympic Trials when it was held in Broomfield in 2009!)
Norma (on the left in the team photo), who’s from Silver Bay, Minn., played with Linda Christensen, Mary Shields and Lucy DeVore.
The two rinks will represent the U.S. at the 2015 World Senior Championships, April 18-25 at the Ice Cube Curling Center in Sochi, Russia.
You can read a bit about the games and see the linescores at USA Curling’s website. I am eager to cheer these teams to victory in Sochi.
Good curling!
