Why should you try curling?

Here’s Jamie’s Top 10 list why you should curl – in a VIDEO!:

And here’s an update from USACurling about the USA Curling Senior National Championships, underway in Eveleth, Minn.:

Defending champion Norma O’Leary is paving the way to victory.

O’Leary (Two Harbors, Minn.), who won the senior title in the vice skip position the past two seasons with Margie Smith and is skipping her own team this year, along with teammates Linda Christensen (Duluth, Minn.), Mary Shields (Duluth, Minn.), and Lucy DeVore (Superior, Wis.) boast a perfect 4-0 record in the seven-game round robin to determine the 2015 champion.

The O’Leary rink won its fourth straight by defeating two-time champion Sharon Vukich, 9-3, this morning at Curl Mesabi.

Three teams are tied for second place with 3-1 records, including Vukich’s team of Beth Bronger-Jones (Lake Forest Park, Wash.), Laure Haigh Gore (Seattle), and Linda Cornfield (Seattle). Shelley Dropkin’s East Coast rink defeated Smith’s team (2-2), 8-3.

Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.) and her team of Suzanne Roy (Hudson, Mass.), Nancy Jennett (Natick, Mass.), and Margaret Lawler (Norfolk, Mass.) broke open a 2-1 game in the fourth end after scoring four points. The dagger for Smith’s rink came in the fifth when Dropkin stole two points to put the game out of reach.

Kathy Pielage’s Wisconsin team improved to 3-1 with an 8-4 victory over two-time champion Ann Wiggins (Annapolis, Md.) by an 8-4 score. Pielage (Verona, Wis.) and teammates Tracy Lawless (Hawthorn Hills, Ill.), Beth Lepping (Madison, Wis.), Cyndy Godar (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and Lori Mountford (Madison, Wis.) scored four points in the sixth end to pull away from the Wiggins squad.

The women’s round robin continues this afternoon with the fifth round of competition. The ladies are playing a single round robin with a double knockout provision, meaning a team has to have two losses to be officially eliminated.

Tiebreaker games will be played if a clear winner is not known after the round robin concludes on Saturday night.

Twenty men’s teams are currently competing as well in a divisional round robin followed by playoffs.

Live scoring from the event is available courtesy of USA Curling’s partner, CurlingZone. Go to www.usacurl.org for updates throughout.

The winning teams will move on to represent the U.S. at the 2015 World Senior Championships April 18-25 at the Ice Cube Curling Center in Sochi, Russia.

The senior championship is for athletes age 50 and older.
