As snow blows in northeast, Colorado Springs ties decades-old high temp record
Summer in January is coming to an end almost as quickly as it began, providing a brief and enjoyable – but not-quite historic – respite from record-breaking cold. Colorado Springs and Pueblo tied daily records for high temperatures Tuesday.
In Colorado Springs, the high topped out at 67 degrees by 12:30 p.m., according to Randy Gray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo. The record was set in 1970. Pueblo tied its record of 73, set in 2003.
Temperatures are expected to steadily drop for the rest of the week, ending with yet another chance of snow starting Friday night. The Pikes Peak region could see highs around 57 on Wednesday, 42 on Thursday and Friday and just above freezing Saturday and Sunday, Gray said.
The weather service predicts a slight chance of rain during the day Friday and a 30 percent chance of snow and rain that night.
Saturday runs the same risk of flurries, but not much accumulation is anticipated.
“It might be reaching on the half-inch (prediction), so I would say just a light dusting,” Gray said.
