6 minors rescued from sex trafficking around Western Stock Show

Six minors were rescued from commercial sex trafficking before and during the recent National Western Stock Show in Denver, the FBI said Monday. Two unnamed traffickers were also arrested.

Major events such as the stock show can attract people trying to profit from criminal activity such as juvenile sex trafficking, special agent Thomas Ravenelle said in a news release.

“This will not be tolerated, and law enforcement will continue to use any such event as an opportunity to identify and rescue trafficked minors, prosecute those who exploit these children, and increase the public’s awareness of commercial sexual exploitation involving children,” he said.

Nearly 100 minors were saved from commercial sexually exploitative environments last year by Colorado law enforcement in partnership with the FBI Denver’s Innocence Lost Task Force, according to the release.

The work was done through the FBI’s National Innocence Lost Initiative and included the FBI Denver Rocky Mountain Innocence Lost Task Force, Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs and Greeley police departments, the Arapahoe and Larimer county sheriff’s offices and the Colorado State Patrol.

The Colorado Springs Police Department recovered 26 juveniles and 44 adult trafficking victims in 2014.
