The coaches and players saw a lot of positives coming out of a game when Colorado College often outplayed No. 2 North Dakota, but fell 2-1 Friday.

“This team showed the growth they have made,” Colorado College coach Mike Haviland said. “Going down 2-1 would have been very different back in October but instead we battled back over the final eight minutes.”

Sophomore wing Alex Roos, who scored CC’s only goal early in the first period, was also looking to build off the positives instead of the mistakes made that led to the loss. He is confident the Tigers will rebound with a strong effort in the series final.

“We will bounce back and be ready for Saturday,” he said.

Lots of activities for next home series

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s postseason championship trophy – the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Trophy – will be on display at The Broadmoor World Arena Jan. 30-31 when CC hosts defending regular-season champion St. Cloud State. Fans are welcome to take pictures with the award for its only scheduled visit for the rest of the season.

CC fans can also take advantage of a ticket promotion that includes $5 children’s seats for Saturday, Jan. 31 in any section with purchase of accompanying full-price ticket. The $5 kids’ tickets are available in the upper bowl without a full-price purchase. Discounted tickets are only available at the World Arena or Pikes Peak Center box offices.

Also on Saturday, the first 1,000 children will receive a free growth chart featuring Tigers defenseman Jaccob Slavin, who is listed at 6-foot-3, courtesy of Courtesy of Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The rinkside reporter for the Saturday TV broadcast on KRDO is Katie O’Keefe Hale, sister-in-law of former North Dakota standout and Colorado Springs native David Hale. She the sister of UND coach Dave Hakstol’s wife, Erinn. … The 14 shots by Nebraska-Omaha last Saturday was the fewest allowed by CC since Bemidji State on Dec. 29, 2006. … It was the second game in a row CC out shot its opponent and lost. … With Friday’s result, each of the last 15 meetings between the NCHC schools have been decided by two goals or less, including 10 one-goal games.
