Blog: Is curling like shuffleboard on ice? Yeah, kinda
The difference between a win and a loss in curling often can be measured in millimeters.
The game requires sending a 43-pound granite stone more than 100 feet down a sheet of ice to a target with great precision.
In a game last weekend as Team Colorado battled at the Denver Curling Club to represent the region at USA Curling’s Club National Championships, two stones were so close that I told my team a whisper couldn’t fit between them.
On the next sheet of ice, Colorado Springs curler Jerry Van Brunt said a stone had plenty of room – that it was like sending a hot dog down a hallway! He’s a fantastic curler – fifth at worlds – so I believe him.
You can watch curling tonight (Friday) at 9 p.m. on NBCSN, because it’s “Curling Night in America!”
Check it out and let me know what you think.
If you have questions during the show, drop me an email or Tweet me at @djrosenberry.
Cheers and good curling!
P.S.: If you signed up for Sunday’s Learn to Curl, I’ll see you in Monument. Please introduce yourself!
If you missed the registration deadline, drop me a line and I’ll see about arranging another session.
