The Broncos didn’t get one this year, but Colorado Springs Utilities did.

A four-member team dubbed “Explosive Limits” brought home first place in the 2014 National Gas Rodeo competition and the team members each got gigantic rings that rival those given to the SuperBowl winning teams.

Colorado Springs Utilities hosted the national competition in September.

Explosive Limits competed against about 30 crews from across the country in five timed events at the Goose Gossage Sports Complex.

Crews had to maneuver a truck and trailer into an ally of cones and try not to knock over a golf ball positioned on the cone. In another event, crews used a backhoe to move an egg. It’s all about accuracy and speed, organizers said and CSU’s team is “the best at what they do,” said Patrick Van Beek, president of the Midwest Energy Association.

Team members were recognized and given their rings Wednesday during the Utilities board meeting.

“This rodeo is an opportunity to display in a public setting, the first class, reliable service that we provide to our customers every day,” Tim Ellefson, Utilities energy construction operations and maintenance crew supervisor said in September before the competition. Ellefson was also the chair of the National Gas Rodeo planning committee.
