A woman who has expressed interest in running for mayor of Colorado Springs was back behind bars Monday after police say she allegedly violated a domestic violence protection order and assaulted a man.

Colorado Springs police said Justine Herring was arrested Monday morning after officers were called to a domestic dispute.

A week earlier, Herring was arrested and charged with menacing after police say the 48-year-old waved an AR-15 rifle at a man and claimed to be a federal law enforcement officer during an incident at Memorial Park.

Police said the latest incident involved Herring’s “significant other” and a fight loud enough to prompt neighbors to call 911.

Details of the alleged assault weren’t released, but police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley said Herring could face felony charges. Herring was to be booked into the El Paso County jail on Monday, police said. Information on her bail terms wasn’t immediately available.

In a television interview after her arrest last week, Herring told KRDO she was wrongly accused and said she would continue her mayoral run and was contemplating higher office as well.

In November, Herring filed a campaign finance disclosure required for mayoral hopefuls that showed she had donated $300 to her own campaign. She is not yet an official candidate, but her Facebook page shows an image that says: “Justine Herring Future Mayor … ‘because Colorado Springs is such a big deal.'”

Herring’s record includes arrests for domestic violence, violating a protective order and driving under the influence, Colorado Bureau of Investigation records show.
