USA Paralympian wins slalom gold
Two-time Paralympic bronze medalist Stephanie Jallen won gold in the women’s standing slalom at the International Paralympic Committee Alpine Skiing World Cup in La Molina, Spain on Friday.Eighteen-year-old Jallen (Harding, Penn.) defeated a field that included France’s five-time world champion Marie Bochet and German Paralympic slalom champion Andrea Rothfuss.Jallen recorded the two fastest runs of the day to distance herself by more than four seconds over Bochet, who finished as the runner-up. The win marks Jallen’s second trip to the top of the world cup podium after winning slalom gold at the Thredbo World Cup in Australia in 2013.”It was a great relief to make the top step of the podium today as my slalom form has been a little inconsistent this season,” Jallen said. “I was extremely proud to represent the USA here in Spain, and I’m excited for the next races.”Six-time Paralympic medalist Laurie Stephens finished just shy of the podium in the women’s sitting class as she finished fourth. Competition in La Molina continues through Sunday.
