A Colorado Springs man and woman were arrested Sunday when a traffic stop allegedly turned up suspected heroin, cocaine and syringes loaded with possible drugs, police said.

Theresa Ackerman, 44, and Richard Maestas, 28, were arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to distribute and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

Officers patrolling the area of East St. Vrain Street and North Union Boulevard about 7:45 p.m. tracked a vehicle whose registered owner, identified as Ackerman, had a revoked license. During the traffic stop, two men approached the vehicle and one took a backpack out of Ackerman’s car. Officers stopped both men and found 7.7 grams of suspected heroin, 8.6 grams of suspected cocaine, three syringes filled with suspected narcotics and about $1,024 in cash, police said.

Police said the investigation was ongoing. Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000.
