Woman killed after being pinned between train cars in Colorado Springs
A 42-year-old woman died after being trapped between two train cars in a southeast Colorado Springs industrial complex Wednesday, Colorado Springs police and fire officials said.
Officials have ruled the death an industrial accident.
The incident was reported about 12:30 p.m., Colorado Springs Fire Department spokesman Capt. Steven Oswald said.
The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead on scene, he said.
The railroad tracks run through the property of Thompson & Sitz Construction, on the 3200 block of Astrozon Boulevard, off Hancock Expressway.
Oswald said employees were sent home after the accident, and the construction company was closed for the day. He did not say whether the woman was an employee of the company, though she was working when she was injured.
Oswald also said the train was moving when the accident occurred, but he did not have additional information about how the woman became pinned between the cars.
Colorado Springs police and officials with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating the death.
Oswald said the Fire Department’s heavy rescue unit was to respond to help with recovery of the body once the investigation was complete.
