The man who pleaded guilty to shooting another man to death last year in Colorado Springs was sentenced to nearly three decades in prison at the El Paso County courthouse Wednesday.

Preston Deangalo Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and will serve 28 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections with a mandatory five-year parole, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.

Johnson was convicted of shooting 26-year-old Ivan Ortiz at a townhouse on the 2500 block of King Street, off Mesa Road in March 2013. Johnson, 28, was arrested April 12 in Cheyenne, Wyo., following a traffic stop.
