President Obama stepped off Marine One and saluted Marines with a cup of coffee in his hand Tuesday on his way back from a United Nations talk on Climate Change and address on airstrikes in Syria.

The White House posted a video to its Instagram account. Press organizations such as ABC News reported it has been dubbed the “Latte Salute” and “Semper Latte” by the Washington Times.

U.S. service members are required to salute the President in most situations — but the President isn’t required to salute back.

Presidents since Ronald Reagan, nevertheless, have traditionally offered the salute back.

Obama is not the first President to mangle a salute, according to the New York Daily News . In 2006, President George W. Bush saluted while holding his dog Barney.
