The man accused of raping a 71-year-old woman at her Colorado Springs home in February 2013 was found guilty Tuesday of sexual assault on an at-risk adult.

Jacob Lashun Lewis, 34, of Colorado Springs previously was registered as a sex offender after pleading guilty to sexual assault on a child in early 2000, records show.

Lewis turned himself into police in July 2013 after surveillance footage from a Walmart store close to the victim’s home on East Boulder Street was released showing him and a friend at the store shortly after the assault occurred.

According to an arrest affidavit, a man was peering in the bedroom window of the woman’s house late at night as she watched television. When the woman went to grab her Smith and Wesson .357 revolver to protect herself, the man forced his way into the home, knocked the gun out of her hand and sexually assaulted her.

The man accompanying Lewis at the store, who was not arrested in connection with the assault, saw himself in the surveillance footage and called police, the affidavit stated.

A sentencing hearing for Lewis was scheduled for Jan. 8, at the El Paso County courthouse, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.
