Calhan homicide victim identified
The victim of a fatal shooting in Calhan was identified Thursday as 30-year-old Michael Mackey, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The El Paso County coroner determined the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the death a homicide, the fourth in El Paso County this year.
Heather Marie Neville, 59, remains at the El Paso County jail without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder, records show.
Authorities said Neville allegedly shot and killed Mackey during an altercation. A neighbor told The Gazette that Mackey had been in a heated argument over a septic tank hookup before his death.
The shooting was reported about 12:20 p.m. Monday from a home on the 9800 block of Calhan Highway, just north of Judge Orr Road, said Cmdr. Jeff Kramer of the Sheriff’s Office.
Five adults and five children were at the home at the time of the shooting, but no one else was injured, Kramer said.
