A routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit and drug bust Monday night in southeast Colorado Springs, police said.

Nathaneal Kurt Lear, 31, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a scheduled controlled substance, resisting arrest and multiple traffic offenses, records show.

Lear allegedly ran off when an officer stopped him for a traffic violation about 11:30 p.m. on the 3800 block of Patrick Drive, off Jet Wing Drive and South Academy Boulevard, police said.

A K-9 unit found Lear hiding behind some bushes at a house nearby and officers recovered suspected narcotics from his vehicle, police said.

Lear was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County jail.
