A blaze that destroyed a home and displaced three residents on Sunday was ruled arson by fire investigators, according Colorado Springs fire spokesman Capt. Steve Oswald.

Oswald did not say how or where in the home the fire started, adding that fire and police had a “solid” investigation.

There was no one home when the fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. from the 7500 block of Chasewood Loop, off Vollmer and Black Forest roads.

Firefighters arrived within 9 minutes and reported large flames and heavy smoke showing from the garage area. About 40 firefighters, three fire engines, two trucks, hazmat and heavy rescue attacked the blaze, which was under control by 2:45 a.m., fire officials said.

The damage to the house and property loss were valued at about $216,000 and the structure was determined to be uninhabitable, Oswald said.

The Red Cross and fire officials worked with the residents to help them find a place to stay.
