House blaze quickly extinguished by Colorado Springs fire crews

A family and their pet were displaced Wednesday when a fire sparked in their home east of downtown Colorado Springs, fire officials said.

Two adults, two children and one animal were able to escape the home without injury and one of the adults was treated for smoke inhalation on-scene, according to scanner traffic.

The blaze started in a home on the 900 block of Bennett Lane, off North Circle Drive and East Yampa Street, about 1:15 p.m.

Firefighters extinguished it within 15 minutes, according to scanner traffic.

Smoke and flames were visible from the second floor and roof of the house, where firefighters cut a large opening to ventilate the structure.
