Colorado Springs couple accused of trying to elude police in stolen car
A couple remained in jail Thursday after allegedly trying to run from police in a stolen car, according to police reports.
J.D. Sutcliffe, 24, was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, eluding and five felony warrants, records show.
Amanda Dillehay, 20, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor warrant out of Douglas County, police said.
Police spotted a Jeep driving recklessly northbound on South Circle Drive from East Fountain Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. The driver of the Jeep, later identified as Sutcliffe, allegedly fled and officers did not pursue because of safety concerns, police said.
Moments later, officers found the Jeep abandoned close to a residential neighborhood on Carlsbad and Bryce drives, off South Circle Drive, and determined it had been reported stolen.
The Jeep’s female passenger, identified as Dillehay, was arrested nearby and Sutcliffe was taken into custody shortly after with the help of a K-9 unit, police said.
According to police, Sutcliffe and Dillehay were seen leaving the Jeep before they were arrested.
