Parks and Wildlife officials did not find a bear cub spotted walking in the area of East Woodmen Drive and Interstate 25 on Thursday, Parks and Wildlife officials confirmed. 

The bear cub most likely headed back into the drainage by Monument Creek, said parks spokeswoman Abbie Walls.

The cub was first seen near Vincent Drive and Woodmen Road, east of the Interstate, Walls said. 

Although there have been few bear sightings this summer, Walls said parks officials are expecting more reports of bears in urban areas as the seasons change. 

“This is about the time of year when bears are eating everything they can find, up to 20,000 calories per day, to get ready for hybernation,” Walls said. “It is very important that the public keep trash put away, grills cleaned and covered, bird feeders out of reach, and any other food sources.”
