Mostly cloudy skies and rain are expected in the Pikes Peak region Wednesday, but the National Weather Service in Pueblo said severe storms and flash flooding were unlikely.

Central, east-central and south-central Colorado may see up to an inch of rain as isolated and scattered thunderstorms travel from higher elevations toward the plains, said meteorologist Randy Gray.

“From Monument and southeast toward La Junta, those areas could get a severe storm or two, and most of the activity will be in the eastern portion El Paso County,” Gray said.

Lightning and wind gusts up to 40 mph were the main weather threats, as well as possible small hail with stronger storms, the weather service predicted.

Some parts of Colorado Springs may get up to half-an-inch of rain, Gray said, and higher elevations in Teller County could see up to an inch accumulate, especially after noon and into the evening.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 70s during the day and fall to the low 50s overnight, the weather service said.
