Crash causes fuel spill, shuts down north Colorado Springs roadway
A collision between a semi truck and a Jeep Tuesday shut down a busy north Colorado Springs roadway, caused a fuel spill and earned one of the drivers involved a DUI citation.
Matt Kershaw, 23, was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and other traffic charges, records show.
According to police reports, Kershaw’s Jeep was traveling eastbound on East Filmore Street about 10:20 p.m. when it crossed into the westbound lanes and struck an oncoming semi truck.
The semi’s gas tank was damaged in the crash and about 30 – 40 gallons of fuel leaked, prompting fire crews to close all lanes of East Fillmore Street at Pennsylvania Avenue to clean up the spill.
Kershaw and the semi’s driver, whose name was not released by police, were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.
East Fillmore Street was reopened in all directions about 3:45 a.m., police said.
