A Colorado Springs man was arrested at a convenience store Wednesday when police said the truck he was driving had been reported stolen from a Fort Carson soldier.

Lawrence Lee Arden, 41, was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft and unrelated felony warrants, police said.

Officers were following reports of burglaries of coin machines at a car wash by the Alta Convenience Store at 2129 Templeton Gap Road about 12:10 a.m., police said.

During their investigation of the coin machines, police ran across a truck that had been reported stolen on July 24 from a soldier deployed overseas. The man driving the white GMC Sierra truck with Alabama plates was identified as Arden, police said. Arden allegedly took off running when police tried to arrest him and officers chased him across Templeton Gap Road and through backyards, finally catching up to him on a house’s lawn, police said.

Officers used a stun gun to subdue Arden and he was taken into custody without incident.

Arden’s wife and son were in the truck when police approached him, police said.

The 18-year-old man was also arrested on an unrelated warrant.
