Police have arrested two men who allegedly tried to break into a east Colorado Springs home Saturday.

According to police reports, two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree burglary, conspiracy, possession of weapons by previous offenders and obstructing a peace officer.

A burglary-in-progress call about 7:30 p.m. from the 5000 block of Nolte Drive North, south of Airport Road, alerted officers that two men, one possibly armed with a handgun, had allegedly entered the backyard of a residence through a fence, police said.

One of the men knocked on a back door apparently to see if anyone was home, while the other acted as a lookout, according to witness statements. The men then tried, unsuccessfully, to go into the residence, police said.

Colorado Springs police arrived within minutes of the call and spotted two men walking near the location of the attempted burglary who matched witness descriptions.

Officers detained both men and recovered a pistol, police said.

Police did not release the identities of the men, citing an ongoing investigation.
