A hit-and-run crash quickly escalated to a pursuit Thursday when the unidentified driver tried to steal three cars to flee from Colorado Springs police.

A green Chrysler was involved in a hit-and-run crash about 10:20 a.m. at the Boulder Street and Cascade Avenue intersection near Colorado College, police said.

The same Chrysler fled north on Cascade Avenue and stopped at the intersection with Cache La Poudre, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and tried unsuccessfully to steal two other cars but couldn’t overpower their owners, police said.

The man then fled westbound on foot on Cache La Poudre Street and successfully car jacked a 47-year-old female who was driving a silver Chevrolet Impala with Utah license plate Y161-ZK, according to police reports.

The woman was not injured in the car jacking, police said.

Police had not located the stolen vehicle or the suspected hit-and-run driver at the time of this report.
