A 16-year-old could be charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired a handgun during an altercation Tuesday at a Colorado Springs Safeway store.

The alleged teen shooter was also arrested on suspicion of accessory to attempted first-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a juvenile, according to police reports.

A 14-year-old boy at the scene was arrested on suspicion of accessory to attempted first-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a juvenile, Colorado Springs police said.

Police did not release the identities of the teens because they are minors, Lt. Catherine Buckley said.

Both teenagers, and a third boy who was later released, were asked to leave the Safeway at 1121 N. Circle Drive near Galley Road after trespassing about noon on Tuesday, police said.

The 16-year-old then allegedly threatened staff with a handgun and fired the weapon as the three teens fled the store, police said.

Police officers, including K-9 units, searched the area and found the teens in a nearby apartment complex. No one was injured in the shooting. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
