Police said two robberies at Colorado Springs Subway that were 40 minutes apart on Monday night are likely not related.

No one was injured in either robbery and an unidentified man displayed a handgun in both incidents, according to police reports.

A man wearing a mask entered the Subway at 116 E. Fillmore St., off North Nevada Avenue, about 8:06 p.m. and demanded cash, brandishing a black revolver, said Lt. Catherine Buckley.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of money and fled west. K-9 officers at the scene searched for but couldn’t find the robber.

The second robbery was reported at 8:46 p.m. from the Subway at 3434 N. Academy Blvd., near the intersection with North Carefree Circle, about five miles east of the first robbery, Buckley said.

According to police reports, the man used a black handgun, but Subway employees could not describe the robber in more detail.

The distance between the restaurants and the considerable height difference of the robber, according to witness descriptions, indicated the robberies were not related, Buckley said Tuesday.

“The variance in the suspect description as far as height from 5-foot-5 to 6-foot-1 is a lot. That and mask versus no mask makes it seem like two separate suspects and not related,” Buckley said.
