A 63-year-old man remained in jail Monday after police said a traffic violation stop led to the recovery of suspected methamphetamine and cash from the vehicle he was driving.

John Chew was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, driving after revocation prohibited and traffic violations, said police Lt. Catherine Buckley.

A driver identified as Chew allegedly drove through a red arrow signal on the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and University Drive about 9:50 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Chew’s record showed he was allegedly a habitual traffic offender without a Colorado driver’s license and police searched the vehicle, discovering 18.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine and $720, Buckley said.

Chew was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.
