Jhoulys Chacin likely to be out longer than first expected for Rockies

WASHINGTON — The Rockies were hit with more bad news Wednesday, after an MRI revealed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin has a shoulder strain in two places and will likely will be out longer than first expected, the team said.

Chacin has a rotator cuff strain and also labral straying in his right pitching shoulder. He will get a second opinion and will meet with team doctor Thomas Noonan before deciding on a timeline for his rehab and return.

On Monday he was moved to the 15-day disabled list, and he returned to Denver because of shoulder inflammation. After a start at Milwaukee on Saturday, Chacin complained about something like deadness in his pitching arm.
