Family displaced after structure fire in northeast Colorado Springs

A family of four was displaced after a fire that began in their garage spread to the rest of their home in northeast Colorado Springs Sunday, fire officials said.

All residents of the house on the 7200 block of Churchwood Circle, off East Woodmen Road, were accounted for and no injuries were reported, according to a tweet from Colorado Springs fire.

Three firefighters were treated for overheating due to the intensity of the blaze in the house and temperatures that reached 95 degrees in Colorado Springs Sunday, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported about 4:40 p.m.and flames had spread from the garage to a living area above by the time firefighters arrived about five minutes later, fire officials said.

The Red Cross was present to help the family find alternate lodging overnight.

Sharpsberg Terrace and Churchwood Circle were blocked off and the public was asked to avoid the area.
