A red flag warning will go into effect from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday in El Paso and Fremont counties, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Wet Mountain Valley, the National Weather Service in Pueblo stated.

In addition to the red flag warning, the weather service issued a fire weather watch for the same area through Wednesday night, citing dry conditions, relative humidity readings lower than 8 percent and possible wind gusts up to 40 mph.

A fire weather watch means critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur and red flag warnings could go into effect, the weather service said.

Colorado Springs and most of El Paso County are expected to enjoy sunny skies with temperatures possibly hiking into the mid 80s. Winds up to 35 mph could kick up dust throughout the day, especially in the eastern part of the county.

Some isolated thunderstorms could form over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the south beginning in the afternoon and into Tuesday evening, with cloud-to-ground lightning and winds potentially gusting up to 45 mph.

The Pikes Peak Region and southeast plains could see scattered showers and thunderstorms beginning late Wednesday morning and into the evening, the weather service forecasted, with daily chances of storms through the rest of the week.
